In today’s Free Lance-Star column, I discussed the importance of guarding the type of entertainment we allow in our lives. Below is a list of resources that will help us to follow the admonishment in Philippians 4:8 to think on things that are true, right, pure and lovely.
Television:
Sky Angel – Sky Angel TV is a revolutionary television service that uses your high-speed Internet service to deliver over 50 Christian, family-friendly channels directly to your TV. The service comes with the Sky Angel receiver box that offers a digital-quality picture and does not require an outside dish, antenna, or professional installation.
Parables Television Network – Parables TV was developed to provide families with an alternative to traditional network television. Their programs are thought provoking, uplifting and will inspire discussion about topics that are important to your faith. They feature movies, documentaries, series, children’s programming and original productions. While other networks feature preaching and teaching, Parables TV is exclusively an entertainment network that inspires one story at a time.
TV Guardian – The TVGuardian automatically detects and filters profanity and other offensive phrases while you watch movies or television shows.
Radio:
KLOVE – This is my absolute favorite Christian radio station. They do not broadcast in the Fredericksburg, VA area, but you can access their programing through their free iPhone app or through live streaming on your computer.
WPER 90.5/89.9 – local VA Christian radio station. Also has free on-line streaming.
Alternative Entertainment:
Lamplighter Press – We LOVE the books available from Lamplighter Press. They are high-quality reprints of books written long ago. Our favorite resource available from this company are their amazing audio dramas. Pop them in for a long car ride and I guarantee you will never hear “are we there yet?” again!
Adventures in Odyssey – This is a 30 minute audio drama that is produced by Focus on the Family that teaches Biblical lessons and values. This is another that my girls love to listen to in the car.
