Free Lance-Star Column Scheduling Change

I wanted to let you know that there has been a scheduling change with my “Saying Grace” column in Fredericksburg’s Free Lance-Star.

A new editor took over the religion section about a month ago and she has decided that she would like to share a different “perspective” and “voice” with the paper’s readers. My column will now be appearing every other week instead of every week.

If you enjoy my column, I would love for you to show your support by sending a short note to the paper.

All faiths should be represented proportionately to the extent possilbe if any at all are represented in a newspaper.

A recent article of yours contained 14 references to “the Jews,” all of them negative. How hard would it be to write an article with 14 negative references to prominent Christians? Without too much effort, I have listed 14 offenders below. If the first 13 were not atonement enough, perhaps the last, responsible for the death of Ann Frank and 6 million other innocents, finally got the deity killers enough expatiation.

“Saint” Constantine who boiled his wife alive, murdered his own son and bent Christianity into a form favorable to him, polluted with inputs from Mithraism and Sol Invictus to establish the royal “we” and attempt to sustain the Roman Empire. One cannot wonder what a bronzed Christ, lean and tough as a sabra cactus would think of a procession of pot-bellied, soft-handed Cardinals, resplendent in their jewels and brocaded finery as they sustain a shadow of the power of Rome.

“Saint” Louis de Montfort who lit up the Paris nights with bonfires of Talmuds (and Torahs). A good Christian must be careful, lest one be drawn in by such pernicious Jewish Talmudic dogma like “Never be the second one to say a greeting when meeting someone on the street.”

Torquemada, who failed to “save” Jewish souls, despite the most extraordinary tortures imaginable.

The Spanish regents who all but populated the New and Sephardic World with Jews who were fleeing torture and being burned alive in Spain and all over Christian Europe.

Mary Queen of Scots, who rounded up Huguenots with great relish for burning and torture.

Numerous Czars, who concocted every libel conceivable to get his subjects to conduct pogroms.

The prominent citizens of Marietta GA, who incited a lynch mob to hang the innocent Leo Frank.

The French officers who cooked up “evidence” against Alfred Dreyfus, only to have the whole miasma of lies collapse in the light of truth.

The good citizens of Europe, who, dying like flies from various plagues, murdered Jews who seemed to be somewhat immune to the devastation (since they bathed). The only obvious conclusion was that the murderers of Christ were poisoning the wells.

The Italian clergy who provided safe houses and cover for Nazis fleeing Europe after defeat in WWII.

Pius XI, who signed the Reichskonkordat, the very first diplomatic agreement with hitler’s Germany. Starting off a regime that caused the death of 50 million human beings with a nice imprimatur from the Vatican is always a good idea.

Emperor Theodosius, who destroyed many great treasure because of their pagan origins and burned classical libraries.

The Christian mob that murdered Hypatia, the prototype for all liberated women and one of the greatest philosophers and mathematicians.

Adolph Schicklgruber, who as leader of the Third Reich tried unsuccessfully solve the Jewish problem. Schicklgruber was raised Catholic, and has never been excommunicated. But that’s OK, cause the church has never abolished the Office of the Inquisitor, they just renamed it.

Those pesky Jews just won’t go away. A 3,200 year-old Egyptian stele extols their demise, Schicklgruber opened a “Museum of Extinct Peoples” and columnists sneer at them but the pesky Jews still claim ethical monotheism as theirs, the Psalms as theirs and the beautiful allegory of the Creation Story as theirs, along with the rest of the Hebrew Bible. We are not letting go of our Covenant either. Go get your own. It is not Judaism that needs to swerve into the others’ lanes to validate itself. Not only that, but those pesky people just launched a spy satellite of their very own. I think it is their 11th spy bird, and it’s a very sophisticate one. Not bad for a nation surrounded by enemies.

When France burned Israel on a defense contract to provide Mirage fighters, the Israelis produced their own version, the “Kfir.” The Kfir is superior to the Mirage in every respect. Israel cancelled its Lavi project at the request of the US because it would have been a direct competitor for our top-line F-15 fighter on the international market.

When the latest versions of US warplanes and weapons arrive in Israel, many sensors and systems are removed and replaced with higher quality Israeli components. The US is working on Star Wars technology with Israel. Many other Western nations have embarked on joint military and civilian ventures with Israel. The largest IBM facility outside of the United States will soon be operating in Israel.

Israel builds the world’s best unmanned aerial vehicles. India recently purchased $750 million worth of Israeli UAVs because they were the only suitable platforms that could operate at the lofty altitudes over the Himalayas. After operating the vehicles on a trial basis, India doubled the order.

The Israeli company Elbit was ranked as the Number 1 Mid-Sized Aerospace company by the prestigious magazine Aviation Week and Space Technology. In many high tech fields, if you are not working with the Israelis or using their equipment, you are not working with the best.

The Israeli-designed Merkava tank is ideally suited for Middle Eastern operations. It has a very tough hide and is the only main battle tank capable of carrying an infantry squad internally. Recently, the IDF “leaked” that it has almost 1,300 Merkavas in its inventory. That number is enough to sober any potential adversary- a former US tanker put it simply, “That is one hell of a lotta tanks.”

Regarding more formidable weapons, I will paraphrase Khrushchev’s quip about rocket scientists: “Our Jewish physicists are better than your Jewish physicists.” All this technology is literally rising out of the sand in a nation the size of New Jersey. If Israel is given the chance to “Beat swords into plowshares,” all her talents and energies would be diverted into medical and biological research, where Israel is already a world leader. All the world would benefit.

Regardless of its weapons inventory, no nation can defend itself without high-quality soldiers who are motivated to take immense risks. Every Israeli soldier has only one standard for measure: the tiny band of troops who stormed Entebbe and literally took on an entire rogue nation by themselves.

Pound for pound, Israel is the most creative, industrious and powerful nation on earth. It has no natural resources but its people and it is one of the best educated nations of earth with a very high standard of living. It sells military and other technology to nations with far greater populations. Israel offers medical assistance to all of her neighbors when they show up injured or ill. Christian street proselytizers sing and reflect on Jerusalem’s main street. People in traditional Arab dress commonly walk the boardwalks of streets of Tel Aviv and are not molested as they probably would be in many places in the U.S. Israel is strong, it is tolerant and it is not going to go away or alter its beliefs that all peoples who love the Lord are redeemed, Jew or not. Hi Bob – thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. If you have read my column for any length of time, you know that I write from an Evangelical Christian point of view. I am not sure what column you are referring to, but any “negative” reference I made to “the Jews” refers to their actions as described in the Bible not them as a people. I have a deep love and respect for Jews. The leaders of my faith were Jewish – Jesus, Paul, Peter, etc. The nation of Israel are God’s chosen people because of the promise made to Abraham. Gentiles have been brought into the fold because of God’s mercy. Your examples of “Christians behaving badly” makes me very thankful that Christianity is not based on the actions of man, but on the free gift of grace provided through Jesus Christ.

    Christian-themed books
In your 28 June, 2014 Free Lance Star article you mentioned disappointment in finding good reads that were also Christian themed with interesting characters. I wanted to share the names of two authors whom you may not have checked out that I found wonderful with value-based stories and interesting characters. Tamera Alexander’s Fountain Creek Chronicles is the first, and although these stories are based in the earlier part of our country’s history, the story-lines are interesting and relate-able and the characters display good values, with a few villains thrown in for good measure. I bet her other books are equally good. Second, Debbie Macomer has several series of books that also contain interesting story-lines, value-based action, and characters and plots also relate-able due to being set in more modern times and with current real-life events running through them. I hope you will check them out if you haven’t already. And I also hope you will soon find more time for the individual pleasure of reading. I keep my E-reader loaded with a book or two and take it with me everywhere, so in the 5-10 mins of waiting everywhere (this is the crowded east coast!) I can get a few minutes of reading done. God Bless. Elaine T
